11 things to know about the 11 Day Power Play.
- Back in 2016, founders Mike and Amy Lesakowski came to us with a big idea: the world’s longest hockey game to raise one million dollars to fight cancer. They enlisted us to create one h-e-double-hockey-sticks of a brand to bring this game to life.
The 11 Day Power Play was born.
- The world record-breaking inaugural game took place in the summer of 2017, when 40 brave players endured 11 straight days of hockey to raise more than $1 million for Roswell Park. Our promotional campaign for the event included an all-time agency favorite: a digital billboard using a hockey player’s missing teeth to count down the days until puck drop.
- The following year, the game evolved into the 11 Day Power Play: Community Shift. In this format, teams took the ice for shifts of a few hours, getting thousands of players involved over the 11 days. We, of course, created a promotional campaign for this game, as well, and continue to do so every year.
- In addition to Roswell Park, Make-A-Wish WNY, Camp Good Days, and Oishei Children’s Hospital have been added to the 11 Day Power Play’s list of very deserving beneficiaries.
- In 2019, our team was tasked with adding a mascot to the 11 Day family – Petey Power Play! Designed from scratch here at 268 Main, we had a blast dreaming up his flowing hockey-bro mullet and crooked, toothy grin.
- Even a global pandemic can’t keep the 11 Day down. In 2020, players hung up their skates and reached for their sneaks in an impromptu street hockey tournament we aptly named the 11 Day Power Play: Big Save.
- The most recent 11 Day Power Play took place this past June. Our latest promotional campaign shined a light on the lasting impact of the game’s beneficiaries. From the powerful emotions of capturing a patient ringing the remission bell at Roswell to the fun of filming on snowboard alongside Petey and a Make-A-Wish recipient out on the slopes, this may have been our most beloved campaign yet.
- Over the years, we’ve been proud to cheer on Crowley Webbers who’ve played in the event and even more who’ve contributed as volunteers.
- A select few employees may have even taken on the persona of Petey Power Play from time to time. Who? We’ll never tell!
- And our very own chief creative officer, Matt Low, serves on the board of this awesome organization!
- In a short seven years, the 11 Day Power Play organization has come just shy of raising an unbelievable $11 million for cancer-related research and charitable causes. We’re truly honored to have been supporting them since day one and encourage you to get involved too!
