Algorithms, engagements, AI – Oh my!
The world of social media can often feel like an endless yellow brick road with twists and turns and everyone trying to get a glimpse behind the curtain. With daily updates to algorithms, apps, and features and now the use of AI, it’s more important than ever to stay on top of the latest industry trends.
That’s why this month, members of our public relations department traveled to Social Media Marketing World in San Diego to get immersed in it all. We were joined by thousands of other social media marketers from around the world, all on the same quest for likes and validation. This two-day conference was packed with keynote speakers and sessions filled with relevant, inspiring, and useful information. Here are some of the key lessons we took away:
Content is king but context is queen.
While creating compelling content remains essential, understanding the context in which it’s delivered – across platforms, devices, and audiences – has become equally important for engagement and conversion.
Video dominates engagement.
The effectiveness of video content, especially short-form videos on platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels, continues to outperform other content types in terms of engagement and reach.
AI integration is essential.
The application of artificial intelligence in marketing strategies is not optional – it’s crucial for staying competitive. AI can significantly enhance content creation, customer targeting, and campaign analysis.
Trust and transparency win.
In an era of skepticism toward advertising and media, brands that prioritize trust, authenticity, and transparency in their marketing build stronger relationships with their audiences.
The creator economy is flourishing.
Brands are recognizing the value of influencers and content creators more than ever, integrating them into marketing strategies to reach new audiences and add authenticity to their messaging.
We are made to navigate change.
Remember when there was no social media? Or even the World Wide Web? Navigating new technology is not new to us, and there will be only more change in the years to come. But with everything we learned at SMMW, one thing was clear: there will always be ways to adapt to what we are doing and navigate the winding road ahead – if only it were as simple as clicking our heels together.
